B i o: Who is Anguz Black?
In 2000, Anguz began his career interning for the Virginia based radio station Hot 102.1(WWHV). After seeing his hard work and dedication he was promoted to Radio Engineer and later became a Radio Personality (member of the Jungle Unit) on the show, Da Crib, featuring Pezo Johnson (formerly Pezo Coconuts) and DJ Babey Drew. During this time Anguz began writing and performing his own routines opening for Bruce Bruce, Kat Williams, Sheryl Underwood, and Rickey Smiley.
The Hot 102.1 radio station became defunct in 2006 but his talent and work ethic was recognized by the iconic 103 JAMZ (WOWI) in 2007 to be a part of the legendary Boodah Brothers Morning Show in with Kool DJ Law and Big B. Together they were an unstoppable trio providing interesting daily topics, pop culture, musical knowledge, community awareness, and of course humor. Anguz wrote, produced, and provided voices for various characters on the popular segment entitled “What Part of the Game is That?” a segment parodying celebrities. The iHeartMedia Inc. formerly Clear Channel Inc. radio station syndicated the segment and permitted listeners to hear it internationally. The trio was abruptly ended with the fatal heart attack of co-host Kool DJ Law in 2010 . The loss was strongly felt by Anguz and the Hampton Roads community; Anguz continued radio as a host with DJ Bee on the new morning show, “Da Block.”
In 2009, he was featured on Martin Lawrence Presents 1st Amendment Stand Up (Fourth Season Episode 7). He continued stand-up by opening, featuring, and touring for various mainstream comedians such as Kevin Hart, Sommore, Cedric the Entertainer, Paul Mooney, Mike Epps, Loni Love, Mo'Nique, Eddie Griffin, Mark Curry, John Witherspoon,Tony Rock, Tommy Davidson, J. Anthony Brown, Don Curry, Christopher Reid, etc. In addition to comedians he opened for numerous musical artists such as T.I, Jeezy, Rick Ross, Melanie Fiona, Gerald Albright, Norman Brown, 50 Cent, Mobb Deep, Busta Rhymes, etc. He has toured with musical talents such as New Edition, Keith Sweat, and Will Downing. Anguz was also featured along with Singer Nikki Grier for Rapper Kardinal Offishall's single “Refresh.”
In addition to radio and stand-up comedy, Anguz danced in the “Dancing with the Hampton Roads Celebrity Stars” fundraiser in 2009. He has published two DVDs “100% Real Anguz” (2001) and “Anguz Black Street Cracks (2005).” His comedy show "Broke N Famous" (2014) was filmed for DVD at the Virginia Beach Funny Bone.
